Our Story

Headquartered in Walnut Creek, California, Melomys® is named in honor of the Bramble Cay melomys, the first victim of human-caused climate change. The Melomys rubicola (aka the Bramble Cay melomys) was declared extinct by Australia's Queensland state government in February 2019.

Climate change has become a pressing issue that has been making headlines more and more. The fate of the Bramble Cay melomys serves as a precautionary tale of the severe consequences of global warming if left unchecked.

At Melomys, we strive to be part of the solution because we believe the Bramble Cay melomys should be the last casualty of human-caused climate change.

One Tree Planted works with local communities and experts to create a lasting impact on ecosystems and people. They ensure that all trees planted are native species and have a rigorous monitoring process to guarantee the long-term survival of new trees.

A message from the founder

Why I started Melomys

Climate change protests are gaining serious traction these days. People are more aware than ever the impacts of climate change on our collective future. But there's also something interesting going on - people are showcasing their support by shopping at fast fashion stores. They might wear a shirt that says "There's No Planet B" to promote environmental activism, but here's the thing - those shirts aren't exactly aligned with the message. That shirt may have done more damage to the Earth when it was manufactured.

This is why I started Melomys. If you buy a shirt showcasing your support for the environment, the path it takes to reach you should match the message. It seemed only appropriate that I name the company in honor of one of the victims of human-caused climate change.
